Polyarthra dolichoptera-"aptera"-form
Polyarthra dolichoptera; lateral view of "aptera-form with amictic egg. In contrast to the "regular" Polyarthra dolichoptera the first generation of individuals hatching from resting eggs do not possess the fins the later generations have. In former times these specimens have been considered a separate species.

Polyarthra dolichoptera_aptera; same specimen from above; dorsoventral view. The "aptera"-specimens have neither fins nor muscles which drive the fins. Because of slight compression by the coverslide the egg has leaked unfortunately.
